We went with our 4th grade buddies to the Autry National Center.
Family Discovery Center
First, we learned about the See family, a Chinese American family who overcame many obstacles in early 20th-century Los Angeles. We played in a replica of their restaurant called "Dragon's Den", their house and antique shop.
The California Gold Rush
We also learned about the history of the discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill and the resulting flood of immigration to California. First, learned that people traveled to California by sea in a ship called "Clipper Ship" or by land in a covered wagon. Then, it’s off to the gold mines, where we learned how to pan for gold and visit a replica general store.
