We learned about some Jewish symbols, listened to a story, and then made our own quilt.
Four Thousand Years of Journey
We time traveled through time learning about the Jewish history. After each time traveling adventure, we collected souvenirs to put on our time traveling quilt.
In Rome we learned how the Romans believed in many gods and the Israelites believed in only one god. They fought a great war and even though the Israelites had less people fighting, they won the war. We also learned the story of the menorah and Hanukkah.
In China we learned more about the talilt (prayer shawl) and how talilt bags were made from silk. We also learned about "Silk Road" and how people from different cultures would trade without being able to speak the same language.
In Spain we listened to a story about a boy named Rafael and his family. Rafael's family had to hide their Jewish identity from the Spaniards. We learned how Rafael's father saved his family by playing the shofar (ram's horn) for the king.
In Eastern Europe we learned that Yiddish is a language made from blending Hebrew and German together. We also acted out a story, learned to appreciate what we have and learned more about the Star of David.
