Our docent took us in small groups and walked us to the Herb Garden.
.
One teacher read us a story about a boy who grew different types of fruits and vegetables in his garden.
.
One teacher showed us how cotton comes from a cotton plant and how it can be dyed different colors using other plants like indigo. When ground up, the branches of the leafy yellow indigo plant turn cotton a dark blue-purple color.
.
One teacher walked us around the herb garden and showed us different kinds of herbs, plants and fruits. We learned how we can use these plants, herbs and fruits to help us keep our skin soft, smell good, cook with them and even how they can heal our skin.
We can use Rosemary and Lemongrass to make our food taste better.
Aloe Vera can help heal our skin. Jojobba oil from the Jojobba plant can help keep our skin smooth. We also learned about a plant that we use to make Baby Powder from. Some other cosmetic and perfume herbs we also learned about are Rose and Lavender.
.
Using mint leaves and other materials (corn starch, baking soda, peppermint, water and stevia) one teacher showed us how to make toothpaste.
